Thumb Butte

Designed to teach for the Thumb Butte Quilt Guild in Arizona, this 19″ square wall hanging uses turned and bonded appliqué for depth, some colored pencil work to give dimension to the bird and butte, as well as a bit of free motion thread, painted pine needles, resulting in a lovely, realistic art quilt. And who doesn’t love road runners? Well other than a certain coyote. The only thing I’d change on this quilt is my use of a solid fabric for the clouds, I’d go with a semi-sheer instead. But, it is still one of my favorites.
