Introducing Jill McCloy

Jill fell in love with sewing as a child and got her first sewing machine at the age of four.  She started teaching sewing in high school and hasn’t stopped since. A nationally loved and respected sewing designer, author, and teacher, she’s been spreading her SEW EASY, SEW FAST, SEW BEAUTIFUL philosophy for more than 20 years through classes, books, magazine articles, and patterns. Her sewing and embellishment techniques apply to general sewing, quilting, heirloom sewing, doll making, home decorating and more. She really can do it all!

But her greatest contribution to the sewing world is the many students she has taught and inspired. They complete projects they never thought they could. Breaking projects into easy steps, she uses an easy good humor that gets everyone laughing and talking and delighting in sewing. Just read below and you’ll understand why she is one of the finest sewing instructors ever. Whether you take one of her classes or use one of her patterns, she will wake up your imagination and inspire you to explore and get the most out of yourself and your sewing machine.

As a designer

Jill makes imaginative patterns for quilts and other projects that are a pleasure to use. She made the Dragonfly Moon quilt for an invitational quilt show at the La Conner quilt museum. While working as a Viking educator, Jill became an expert in machine embroidery. Her designs include Japanese, Primitive, Floral and Battenburg Lace designs, as well as a doll face diskette. They are available through Cactus Punch and Viking. See the Gallery page for details.

As an author

Jill McCloy has published several books, including the “Heirloom Shirt” book and her quilt series. She was honored to be invited to participate in a Threads Magazine Sewing Challenge. The collection she produced for the Challenge was marked by simple, clean, versatile designs that highlighted the elegant fabrics and exquisite machine embroidery details.
