Hollyhocks in Grandmother’s Yard

This charming project brings a fond smile to those of us who spent summer afternoons on the porch with Grandma making hollyhock dolls. Buttons and machine-made yo-yos are the highlights of the quilt adding interest and dimension. Smooth interfacing turned leaves and a simple machine binding makes this an easy weekend project. Machine or hand crosstitched felt centers work beautifully in place of buttons and, of course, the yo-yos could be done by hand. French knots or beads could also accent the flower centers. Quilted butterfly designs included.
