The Lookout Pattern

This quilt was fun to design and make. It is a little different than anything else I’ve done, so there was a bit of stewing about the figure and perspective. Two photos were used, one taken of the Hamakua coast and one of my friend Deon looking out to sea. A variety of appliqué techniques are used in creating the quilt: turned edge using a lightweight iron-on interfacing; raw edge bonded appliqué and a number of dimensional appliqué techniques for mini leis, hibiscus blossoms, pistols, buds, and leaves.
